GTA6 publishers see bad review bombing as a major risk: it will reduce revenue and lose players
Bad review bombing: Take-Two is concerned about its commercial risk to GTA 6
Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA 6, has officially identified the "bad review bombing" as a serious business risk. In its communication with investors, the company pointed out that such online activities pose a significant threat to its business and could lead to reduced revenue and loss of players.
Take-Two has been a victim of "bad review bombing" for years. Now, the gaming giant has officially admitted that such moves are harmful to its business, directly confirming its influence.
In its latest 10-K filing, Take-Two acknowledged the impact of "bad review bombing" on its business, emphasizing the need to achieve and maintain high game ratings on third-party platforms. High ratings help attract players to find their games.
However, once a game's ratings drop or it receives a large number of negative reviews, it can be harder for players to discover or recommend a game. In addition, defamation campaigns targeting specific game ratings can have a significant impact, leading to player attrition, reduced revenue, and increased advertising and marketing costs for companies (to counter the impact of negative reviews), while also damaging a company's reputation.
It is worth noting that a game being "bombarded with bad reviews" is not necessarily due to its poor quality. Players sometimes express their protest by posting bad reviews for various reasons. Although the likelihood of GTA6 being "bombarded with bad reviews" is low, accidents can still occur. Nonetheless, this does not prevent GTA6 from being a huge success after launch.
